Woodsy, So......... What color did you choose?
I'll admit I also like the red scheme the best.
What software did you use to do your mock ups?
I want to fiddle with color schemes for my 81-850G. Would like to keep it looking stock but I have not been able to locate the pinstripe decals and doubt I can afford to have someone paint them for me..... This thread has given me some good ideas.

I have gone with a white base coat, i am still undecided with what colour to do either side of the white stripes. A gloss black i think would look good but makes the bike harder to see at night.

I use Arcsoft Photostudio to edit my photos, prefer it to photoshop, if you cant find it let me know...

                  Thanks,
I've tried to do mock-ups in "paint" and it is a pain in the arse! Only software I have. I will look up The Arc Soft Photostudio.
Good luck with the paint job!

I thought , being a cockroach , you'd have gone for the blue old mate (I must have been a bit to obscure for you when I suggested it earlier) .

That red be cane toad colourin' .

                    Cheers , Simon .

lol, didnt even think of that.. Depends on my mood when i walk into buy the paint lol it could come out bright orange with a white stripe.... lol

There is a reason i am not a good panel beater, i have no patience for letting things dry.. give me an engine to work on and i'm happy.

Looking at it now though with just the seat and tank on it... i can see a cafe racer hiding under its skin....

Ok i have to sand it all off again, the clear has gone yellow, Its ok though i wasnt overly happy as i could see scratches still in it.

Thats what happens when you use cheap crap clear paint though, told you i wasnt a patient panel beater.. lol

Don't worry, I understand the impatient bit... I hate waiting... I'm getting very frustrated with how much more I have to do on the 450 and how little time I'm getting to work on it...

At least you can still ride yours

One thing I'm dreading a bit (other than doing the valves) is painting the tank and guards. I wanna spray it properly with a good clear to be petrol proof, but I have no idea how to get it to be a good job yet.

Yeah i'm not having much fun with it.. I need plastic primer now for the side covers and the cover above the tail light.

Painting confuses me abit, i primed it, then sanded it to get it really smooth, painted 3 coats of the acrylic paint as recommended on the can. It said to leave it for 24 hours for it to harden completely. I then wet sanded it let it dry and tried a little bit of cutting compound but it didnt come up really shiny like it says it should. Spose i shouldnt skimp on the clear next time.

Yeah that does sound a little confusing... I'm gonna need a step by step when I get there...

At this stage I'll only be painting metal I think, although it depends on what I do for a rear mudguard and if I find a nice light plastic front mudguard.

I want a pearl white base with a deep blue on top to make the stripe, sort of like what you're doing although I have no idea what sort of stripe or stripes I want yet.

My confusion comes with if I need to do anything special when changing colours, and how to mask the base coat to make the stripe if it's still wet, otherwise how long to leave it before masking and painting, and of course what to do before clear coating and how to make it look nice and deep and shiny... now I'm making my head hurt

lol, now you know why i'm confused. I have a spare front mudguard, its the same as the one on my bike, has some scratches etc but its fixable. If you want it let me know.
