Playing around with a Basic paint scheme

I've sanded the side covers and sprayed them matt black for now, just so they dont look completely crap. Will start on the tail and eventually the tank. The tank needs some filler in afew spots.

The old stickers are a pain to get off, they leave a residue which thinners wont touch and i dont have any eucalyptus oil. So i have to sand the residue off.

From what I know cafe racers are not supposed to be comfortable. They are low riding bikes. Perhaps even lower than a modern sport bike?

I have clubmans on my bike and when I was riding it, I could definitely turn better. The clubmans made me sorta lean up on the gas tank so more center of gravity. I never really turned the bars. I've always kept them straight unless I am going less than 5 MPH. For me, I always lean to turn without turning the handlebars so I'm not killing my wrists. But then again, I'm a pretty small guy so this bike fits me perfectly! I have no problems with comfort.

Anyways, back on topic. If I were you, I'd go with a black and silver theme. Have you ever seen salty_monk's GS750? Yeah...

Ok so i got some paint from a local hardware store, its an Automotive Acrylic, i have just gone with a basic black and white paint scheme. I haven't buffed it yet as my buffer is to big and bulky so i will have to get a drill attachment and use that.

What you think? I painted the forks while i was at it, haven't had a chance to paint the brake caliper or the wheel itself yet.

Love it so far! Where's the helmet fairing gone?

You know when you mentioned black with white stripes the other day you really got me rethinking my blue and white... but I'll just wait and see what tickles my fancy at the time...

I took the helmet fairing off to finish it, but i want to get the paint done first, being self employed sucks cash wise!

I'm still not sure if i should put a black line down the middle of the white and have 2 thin white lines instead..

Ok i am regretting doing this with spray cans, Going to go through afew of them. I have used primer filler on the side covers and my headlight fairing. How smooth does the primer have to be before i can lay some colour on? The primer has a texture to it so do i need it to be really smooth before i paint? Otherwise i will get an orange peal effect wont i?

Or do i lay the colour on and sand that perfectly smooth? I tried looking for the 'how to paint' on here but i cant find it.

As soon as i started to sand the fairings it started to rain, and has been raining for almost a week straight! So no painting in this weather.

Yeah, you need to get the primer sanded smooth, otherwise, it'll be really hard to bury it in paint to get it smooth, later. If you're going to paint it a metallic color use 600 grit wet/dry, if it's a solid color you can get away with 400 grit, but the smoother you can get it, the easier/nicer it will be as you go from there. Might even use a very light dusting of black over the primer (if it's gray) as a guide coat for sanding the orange peel out. When the guide coat is gone, your primer is smooth.
