    Tank Swapability

Anybody know if a tank from an '80 1000GL, '81 1000GL, or '82 1100GL will fit an '83 1100GL? The parts numbers are different on the fiche. Swapability might not actually be a word.

2000 GSF 1200 Bandit (totaled in deer strike)
1986 Suzuki Cavalcade GV 1400 LX (SOLD)

I find working on my motorcycle mildly therapeutic when I'm not cursing.

    I got a tank from a 1982 GS1100 on my 1981 GS1000GL, and it fits perfectly, pic's below.

Thanks, I had a feeling some of these were interchangeable even though the part numbers were different. Was the tank you used from a GL?

I think any of the GL tanks might fit. Diablo's tank appears to be a G tank, but they changed the mounts in '82, so that might work, too.

Previous to '82, they used a single horizontal mounting bolt at the back. In '82 they changed to two vertical bolts, like the "L" models.

Note that the back of the tank is likely at a different angle, so the seat might interfere with it differently.

Thanks Steve. I hadn't realized an '82 G tank might be an option. I see now Diablo's tank has the indentations for the knee area unlike a GL tank. I've got something in the works for a GL tank now for about $75 (Still need shipping charges). I don't really want to try to wrestle the failed Kreme job out of my tank before resealing unless that is the only option.
