    GS850 Gas Cap Options?

I finally got the broken lock out of the stock gas cap and the set-up looks like it might accept and old skool American car gas cap?? Am I dreaming? Has anyone found a solution that works besides the stock unit?
I'm half tempted to go to pick-a-part and collect every gas cap that looks close to see if something will work...

Anyone have some insight on this one?

      Hi,

What year? www.partsnmore.com has them for $23. I think they have a $35 minimum parts order. The one they list says it's for the '81-'83 GL but the part numbers they reference fit other bikes too.

EDIT: Oops, nevermind. I see '83 in your sig. I think the one they have will fit your bike. In fact, the superseded part number they list (44200-49810) fits my bike too.

      Thank you for your indulgence,

      BassCliff

Awesome thanks, I saw those online a couple of places but I was hoping to find something a little more unique you know? My 1st impression was that the tank looked like it might take a old style gas cap off of a Chrysler or something like that...Pick-a-Part is a good waste of an afternoon for 2$...I'll report any findings....

You will waste your time at PickaPart I always see the tanks removed. Weather that is a safety feature or required by the fire marshal

I think it's an EPA requirement. They also have to remove the brake fluid, coolant, refrigerant, engine and transmission oils, etc. Anything with VOC content has to be recovered and recycled. Due to the anti-rollover valves on modern gas tanks, the easiest way to dump the fuel is to remove the tank and pour it out through the filler neck.

The one by me cuts the tanks out but I've scored caps before for other projects...
