    Shifter cover

I have one shifter cover in a pretty sad state

It's off a 85 GS750EF.Don't want to use tape.A piece of hose was suggested on the local bike forum.Getting a piece on this shape may not be that easy.Maybe a bunch of O rings lined up? Open to other ideas.
    Thanks

Really cheap to replace the rubber, your local dealer may have it too.

    Part #1063834 (489954-001) $3.81

      Hi,

Yes, those parts should be available OEM. Or you could check out your local ACE hardware, the plumbing section. Maybe you can find something that will work. That's where I found a rubber thingy that worked for my side stand cushion.

      Thank you for your indulgence,

buy a can of rubberized battery box paint and dip it..let dry..dip it..let dry..and repeat till it builds up to an acceptable thickness and then trim off the end to reexpose the metal end of the shifter We used to dip our needle nosed pliers and other tools in it and hang from a wire over night to dry and redo the rubber on the handles.

Well I couldn't find the stuff Chuck was telling me about but I did find Orings in the plumbing section of Rona. Here's what it looks like:

Very happy with how it looks! Here's a full pic of the shifter and the brake lever,Both have been polished and clear coated:

I really like the idea of the orings. Great job!

I wonder if I can find something like that for my linkage arm since that boot is coming apart.

o-rings are ok but considering you can get oem for a quite literally a few dollars imho there is no reason not to get a proper one... i'm sure someone'll disagree but there ya go!

3m industrial heat shrink would work nicely. Or stock up at Modern next time in your in Vancouver, ( they didn't close shop after all ) I found some of the tool dip you speak of at "Midland Liquidators" last summer. I don't think it would stand up.
