    My custom seat

Needed to make a seat for my build and finally got it all together figured I would share a few pics. This is going on a 81 GS750 frame.
Started with a early beat up Kat seat I picked up for cheap

Cut the nose off and trimmed up the sides

Thought it was a little to long, so I cut about 4" out of the back section and added some foam to tie the two pieces together

Then had to weld the plastic seat pan back together

Then I needed to find a way to get to fasten to the frame.
Welded in 4 clevis pins and welded plastic over the tops of them

Drilled holes down through the frame, look close you can just see them poking through

Then had to get the foam back in shape

    Some 1/2 soft filler foam

    Then time to cover
    Marine grade vinyl carbon fiber

    Then finally the seat

Its not quite as good as a factory job but its not bad I had to make two little tucks on the back side because I did it all in one piece.

just looking at the bracing next to where the battery box was.... are the braces welded all the way around? reason i ask is that it's best to not weld the ends of the web; eg: the bits along the top as it helps reduce the concentration of the stress

They are welded all the way around. The braces under the tank are not welded all the way around (ends left open). The braces in question I dont think would make much difference either way as they are sandwiched down in the frame, plus I wanted them sealed up and not able to hold water rust then rusty water run down all over the bike.

            Ebay

Good price and I got enough to cover it again if I needed to, but its a Marine grade UV, mold, water, resistant. If I were to do it again thought I think I would stitch the back piece instead of rolling it over.

Looks great; too bad you cut up a usable Katana seat....
But hey, these things are just old motorcycles, not heirlooms.
              Keep up the good work!
