Bare metal rust prevention coating.

Hi,

After removing rust from bare metal chemically,
What can you use to treat and preserve the bare metal look and prevent it from rusting again?

Something other than paint that would last in the elements similarly to the original factory metal treatment.

Zinc Chromate get a caswells kit. The oem bits have a zinc plating that is silver. ZC is a lovely greenish colour.
metal cleaned via chems will have a larger surface area for O2 to react with.

Just a wipe of an oily rag will do.. Then when you wanna use the metal or parts just wash it with some laquer thinner or some paint thinner..whatever will remove the oil and leave no residue.

I've used CLR to remove rust from bolts and small parts and it works great but after that there is no coating left at all and the metal flash rusts in seconds when you take it out.

I've used it on some unusable jets and emulsion tubes and it really cleans them well. looks brand new. ( I don't know what other effects it has on these parts but visually they are good.)

I bought a product called Evaporust from Canadian tire, on the instructions it says that after all rust is removed, to wash it in soap and water and then dip it in the solution again and let stand to prevent rust. (haven't tried it yet)

Damn right it is nasty. But the innerds of old plaes look so nice done up in it.

There are other coating. Maybe parkerizing would do. it looks posh.
Evapo Rust strips chromate coatings away ssadly/.

It is likely cheaper to buy new hardware than to refinish teh old.

Chuck is a ncie guy but here it is humid and things rust overnigth even in summer.

There is also cadmium plate. I think this is what most bright bits have.

I know some people use olive oil or something like that?
I mean it's oil....it should work technically.

You can also use gun oil too.

hell.. used motor oil will coat and protect any metal till its ready to be used..bet theres some of that readily available.

Very bad to thinks plating is just a pretty face.
