    Engine air scoop

I see some of you guys (and girls) have an engine air scoop on your bikes. I think it looks exellent. Can i fit a engine air scoop for my GS 550 E. I have near stock exhaust 4-2, so there is not much room for a big scoop. And, where can I buy a a scoop that I'm sure vill fit.

    Nitti,

Are you referring to a 'Belly Pan Fairing'? If so they can be gotten from JC Whitney as well as other places.

Joe, i believe he's referring to what i have on mine...the lower fairing. JCWhitney calls it an engine scoop.

mine is melted...so i'm scrapping it. i'm going to try to modify a newer R6 lower fairing for the bike...that'll be a spring project if i have time/money.

in regards to fitting...i dont think that JCWhitney scoop will fit with 4-2 exhaust. when i switched everything over from my old bike to this one, i had to bring the 4-1 exhaust over along with different engine crash bars, because that is what the lower fairing mounts off.

it MAY fit your 550 with 4-2 exhaust if you are able to find a better way to mount it on the bike. it definitly would require some work...but a 4-1 is your best bet unless you can find a wider fairing.

i'm hoping the R6 fairing is a touch wider then what i have now, so i dont melt it as well.

Adam, Maier Plastics makes a universal lower fairing that will fit most double down tube round frame bikes. I used one on my GS1100 with the stock 4 into 2 pipes and it's worked great so far. Clearances were tight, about a 1/4 of an inch, but I lined the inside with some aluminum heat shield tape and it seems to do the job just fine. Look in the gallery if you want to see how it worked. http://www.thegsresources.com/_scrip....php?RegID=315

Yes I mean the lower fairing. I saw it also at JCWhitney but I get sceptic when they say it fits all bikes. I?ll look around a bit more. Cool paint job AOD. I will have my whitish this winter. Thanks for the close up picture. It gives me an idee how to fit it later on.

I've now found some lower fairings and I wonder if someone have tryed to fit one of these to an old GS. The fairings are made for Suzuki GSF 600/1200 bandit -99 and the other one for Yamaha Fzs 600 Fazer. I know the Yama has a 4-1 exhaust sytem but I'm not sure about the -99 GSF. Will the fit "with managable adjustments om a GS550 -82?

They're also commonly known as chin spoilers. There are generic models that can be made to fit most UJM's.

I always heard them referred to as skirting. Or under skirting. That's how they were listed for replacement for my 650 Turbo. It was the lower skirting.
