What gas tank is on this 79

    Hey guys,

I'm new but haven't posted yet I'm on deployment right now..Before I left I bought a running 79 GS750 for $500 in LA to cafe. I want to make mine something like the bike in the pictures below. Other than that expect to see a build thread once I get back sometime in the fall. Also what's a good Seat to get for my build I saw some of you guys go with AirTech.

    Thanks,
    Brandon

      77 and 78 750..both the same tank..

NEVER SNEAK UP ON A SLEEPING DOG..NOT EVEN YOUR OWN.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

It looks just like my '79 750E tank. Nice and fat.
Good for about 250 miles before hitting reserve on a stock 750.

thanks for the info I thought it looked like my stock tank too...What wire wheel's will fit? the 1000E's fit right?do the GS550's fit? just curious cause it seems to be pretty hard finding wire wheels for the thing.

OMG. I so wish my 750 was a kickstart. I could produce a much cleaner looking bike than my '82...and not have to deal with moving the battery and wires.

Anyhow...what kind of exhaust is that? I ask because my current 4-1 headers sit right in front of the oil filter...which means I have to take the entire header off to change the oil or inspect the damn thing. Ugh. Does that swing it out and off to the right?

                The 1000E has cast wheels

The 750 wire wheels are your best bet - I think the 1000 wire wheels use a larger axle, so you'd have to find the appropriate bearing

Building up a wire wheel is amazingly expensive

Hopefully, you won't be abusing the motor like the bike in the pictures - talk about overheating! Check the collector color

My understanding is the hub is drilled on both sides regardless of how many discs are installed.

Do you guys think this gas tank would fit? I'm still deployed so I can't check the specs..But I think the tank looks sick..Also would you reccomend powder coating or painting the frame? I think paint would be cheaper....

That is a very pretty tank, but I think it wil not fit a GS frame. I think the Nortons are all a single tube frame? Ray
