Painted and polished carbs

Just finished reassembling my carbs after tearing them down to clean and rebuild. While they were blown apart I polished up the tops and painted the rest.

Picture came out kind of blurry, so sorry about that. After polishing the tops I took some heavy grit sandpaper and brushed the tops to break them up from the sides.

They look GREAT!! What was your process?

The carb bodies were disassembled using the guide on Basscliff's site. They were then dipped in berrymans and rinsed out. After masking I painted them with gloss black VHT caliper paint and baked them. The other parts were soaked in simple green and scrubbed, then primed and painted with Duplicolor engine enamel, low gloss black, and baked. The tops were polished using some wheels and compound I picked up from Harbor Freight, then I cut a 60 grit sanding belt and clamped it to a steel surface. I then turned the tops upside down and carefully sanded them in one direction, not back and forth, to give them the brushed look. I then coated the tops with some car wax to seal.

All I can say is, "Wow!" The only other thing I would add is that I hope painting the surfaces where the boots (intake and exhaust) seal against won't hurt you in any way.

Now, all that work and you put on the wrong fuel line? What's up with that?

Yea I'm not too happy with the fuel line. Too big and was difficult as hell to get in place. I just picked it up while at O'Reilly's getting some other things. The PO had an in line fuel filter and I have no plans to run one. I am going to use it for now until the next time I place an order and get the good stuff.

Thanks! I plan to polish the engine covers, then cut out a circle of aluminum and give it the same texture to match in place of the suzuki stickers, as I'm missing mine anyways.

When you dipped them, did you spray them off with anything before you started painting? Also, did you just tape of the spring on the butterfly and paint or did you fully disassemble everything and remove the butterfly?
