    Securing Throttle

    After changing the bars on my bike to clubmans, I cannot get the the throttle assembly to stay in place. Even with the screws fully tightened and some electrical tape underneath, the assembly continues to twist a bit.

    Neither set of handlebars have a pin or peg for locking the throttle assembly into position. Any ideas on what else might help lock this down?

    Did you grind off the anti-rotation tab inside the hand control? Without it the control will spin on some aftermarket bars.

      I did not see such a tab. Might have been ground off by a PO. The bars that came with the bike were not stock.

        Any way to add a setscrew?

        How about a strip of old innertube in place of the tape?

          Why not try a piece of an aluminum can as a shim Or take 1/2 of the control and sand it slightly-- some wet & dry on a piece of glass

            I had exactly the same problem with the left control from the GSX600 I got off eBay where no matter what I did, it would rotate with the choke lever.

            I got a thin cable tie and cut it up to glue two short strips of it in the bottom half of the cut out for the 'bar and it now grips well and won't go anywhere.

            You can see them blue tacked in place here before I glued them in permanently:

              These are all good ideas.

              There is a hole in the bottom of the assembly that I might use to line up and drill a hole for a small screw to use as a pin.

              The can/zip-tie shim idea sounds good also. I tried using a bit of electrical tape for the same purpose, but I think that material gums up and gives too easily.

                I was thinking of heat shrink tubing.. shrink some on the bar at the switch location and see if it grips.. if not get a new piece and wipe some glue inside before shrinking it onto the bar.

                  I second the idea of using a piece of an old inner tube. I did the same thing on my old dirt bike when I was converting it over to dual sport use. Quick and easy.

                      Bad news: There does not seem to be a good spot to drill in a set screw.

                      Good news: That tab the Nessism mentioned is in there, so I bent it out a bit and it seems to grab a lot better.

                      Will continue to fiddle with it to make certain.

                        Can someone point out this tab? Not really sure what you mean? I swapped some aftermarket low bars for some higher stock G bars, so I'm supprised its slipping.

                              In the second picture on that thread, there is a small metal tip poking up from the middle of the bottom half of the right handle switch. That is the tab that fits into your handlebars
