    Seat for 1978 gs1000e

I have a 1978 gs1000e. The seat is all ripped up and I want to get a new one. I have heard the pit replica is a good buy but I really wanted it on sooner rather than later because my seat is pretty bad off.. Here is a link to one I was looking at

    Any other recommendations?

Get it then. Saddleman seat covers are a decent value, in a low cost cover.

Pit Replica does not carry a 78 1000 E seat cover.. I have sent them an old cover of mine and as of yesterday TC says the heat mold still isnt set up so they can emboss the pattern. Soon as it is I will get my free cover and they will list it in their store..but at some point it is coming online. Whatever you do DO NOT buy one from B&H SPECIALTIES...Its totally as bad a cover as your 5 year old granddaughter could make..and she may actually be better!!!

I've Had a Pit Replica Seat cover on my '78 GS1000E for some time now. Got it about a month ago. It's a very well made cover, but they didn't quite get the diamonds right. Unless you have to have 100% authenticity, It's still the best replica I have seen.

Here is my '79 GS1000E Seat right after I recovered it with a Pit Replica
seat cover. I think it came out rather well.

Is that the stepped seat? I thought Pit Replica did not make that.

Thats a 79 E cover. I dont think PR has the pattern setup for the 78 E (stepped) yet.
Like Chuck said, they're working on it.

They dont move very fast. Must be a part time gig for them.

Having never seen a '78 stepped seat for an E, except aftermarket, I couldn't answer to that, I do know the '79 seat fits both bikes.

I don't know why the 78 and 79 stepped seats would be different.
Are they?(and 80 for that matter) My 80 GS1000 seat looks like the one pictured.

This is a 78 "C" seat. The E has a bit more of a step in the back with the same pattern.
