Seat for 1978 gs1000e

The 78 1000 E /C seat cover looks like the one SVSOOKE posted. That pattern applied ONLY to the 78 model year.. The one that Sedelen posted applied to the 79/80 model years. Does that clear up any confusion for you guys? As i stated in the earlier post, Pit Replica DOES NOT curently make the 78 model cover. I sent them one for replication and it will eventually come on line from them., They DO make the 79/80 seat covers for both the flat and stepped seats. The seat pans and foam are all the same for the 78 thru 80 1000s. Its just that 78 models had that one particular pattern then was changed in 79.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
1978 GS 1000 E, 1979 GS 1000 S, 1973 Yamaha TX 750, 1977 Kawasaki KZ 650B1, 1975 Honda GL1000 Goldwing, 1983 CB 650SC Nighthawk, 1972 Honda CB 350K4, 74 Honda CB550
NEVER SNEAK UP ON A SLEEPING DOG..NOT EVEN YOUR OWN.
I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

GS1000G, it states in the description that it's for the "Flat Type Seat" (does that mean "non-stepped" C model?)
I know the pattern is wrong for the '78 GS1000 (Which they're now in the process (long process) of making thanks to Chuck), and since they don't have any other GS1000 seat covers listed at their store, I have to believe this was the seat cover I used on my '79 GS1000E stepped seat, it worked out well. Here's their current E-bay auction for that seat cover. It did in fact come with a seat strap which I gave to Chuck.
Here's another GS1000E/S seat cover from England, about the same price,
P & K classic bikes, I can't tell you anything about these folks, and even though they hand make these after the order is placed, I can't tell you if the pattern will be right as they show a 850G seat cover. They say their seat cover will fit the flat or slightly stepped seat. Don't know if there's a logo on the back or not.
They have an interesting web-site, has a video on replacing the hooks with new hook strips you rivet on, just in case yours are too far gone.

Yup,says flat seat. That's why I was puzzled.I guess you stretched that flat seat into a stepped seat.
Someone can get a free seat if they send their stepped seat in,perhaps?http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/u...00080021-1.jpg

As far as getting a free seat cover if you send in a stepped seat cover,
well, I still have my old one. Want it?

Sedelen,
How do I contact Pit Replica and get a seat cover like the one you have pictured? I need one like you have pictured with the stepped seat and gold Suzuki on the back. Do you have phone # and part #.
I have looked everywhere for a seat cover for my 1978 Suzuki GS1000E and this is the closest to the original.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve

I put one of those on 1 '81 1000G. It was a very tight fit, but it looks great. I bouhgt it for my '78 1000E, but it didn't look right for that. Obviously, it looks great on Sedelen's bike.
I wouldn't care much if the heat stamped patersn wasn't perfect match as long as it looked good. I have installed several Sadlemen covers and don't like them that much. They have an extra half inch or so of foam under the cover. That makes the seat look all puffy, and its hard to put the silly chrome plastic trim strips on the seat with the extra thickness. I also don't care for the sewn pattern.
They work, and they are easy to install though. I think I have an extra brand new one, and also one I removed to install the Pit Replica that is still serviceable if anybody wants it for shipping cost. (from a 1000G/or '79-'81 850G)sigpic Too old, too many bikes, too many cars, too many things

Right now they are in the process of making a '78 GS1000E stepped seat
cover, and they've been in the process for awhile. Hopefully soon they'll have it available, you could check with Chuck Hahn for status (poor guy's
been waiting for what must seem like years).
Anyway, you find them on E-bay, mine is a '79 GS1000E cover, and I wanted to have the gold lettering, so I asked that they do that for me and they did. You can contact them at pitreplica2@gmail.com, believe "TC" or something like that is the person you'll be dealing with.
Here's a seat cover like the one I bought.
I know it says flat seat but it worked well on my stepped seat, think it's a mistake.
There are others on E-bay that are the exact same Pit Replica cover, but listed for in British pounds for about 51.60, I would contact Pit Replica and ask them about that, I mean they all ship from Thailand anyway, you might be able to get it for that price, or maybe you can just bid on that cover (I'd contact them first). If you want gold lettering you'll have to request that, otherwise you'll probably get white, which some people like, but it was gold that was the original color.
Just go to E-bay Motors, Parts, and type in "GS1000 Seat" and all kinds of stuff will pop up. Here's another picture of my seat from a different view just after I covered it, spent several hours to do it.
Here's the bike with the seat on it, that little blue micro fiber cloth protects the tank from chaffe marks, so if you see that, that 's what it is.
