Best place to buy POR15 paints?

I'm looking to paint a swingarm & a set of wheels. I'm thinking of using either the POR15 Chassis black or Blackcote sprays.

As I understand it they are self priming when used on Aluminum.
Getting it for a decent price is always an issue with POR15 stuff. Anyone got any good links for it?

Guess VHT are my other option... cheaper & easier to get hold of but probably not as good..

This wheel paint resists chipping, cracking and fading, while protecting the wheel surface from oxidation.

Learn more about this one step epoxy coating that does not require a primer and it?s chemical, corrosion, rust and salt resistant.

Have you considered powder coating? That's the way I went.

I've only bought POR direct from the company and agree its not cheap. Are you going to spray it? I think that's the only way you get a good appearance with POR. With wheels I'd be looking for what ever resists brake fluid best, or you could use a brake fluid that doesn't take paint off.

The guy I work with was saying his paint supplier was recommending SEM paint. TGP Global has it. I've never used it or heard about it before today. They have a POR type version and UV protected urethanes in spray cans.

Chassis black and blackcote comes in spray cans hence the attraction!

If you brush POR15 original on can you sand it back to get a smooth finish before overcoating with something UV stable?

Hey Dan, all my Blackcote has been brushed on. Frame, swingarm, headlight ears, wheels, exhaust bracket, battery tray, tail light bracket, etc.

If you're careful, the self levelling properties are brilliant and you don't need to spray.

I'm not the world's greatest with a brush so I definitely have some runs and things around the place, but if you're good with a brush and don't put it on too thick I think it'd go very well.

The thing to beware of with the Blackcote is that it's *moisture curing*, so if you're spraying you need some real good filters in your mask. I had that spelt out to me *very* clearly both from our local POR 15 rep. and the reseller I bought it from.

Also, you can definitely go over the top of the original POR 15 with a UV stable coat, although I'm not sure if you have to sand or not. Off the top of my head Blackcote is two coats more than 6 hours and less than 24 hours apart. After 24 hours you need to sand before the second coat.

I haven't painted aluminium with the Blackcote but I used Metal Ready on everything I painted with it and it worked really well.

I buy mine from the local auto body supplier (at stocking dealer pricing, Got a buddy who owns a parts store). Check your phone book is the best way to find one. If you have a buddy in a body shop you may be able to get wholesale pricing on it. If not let me know what you need and I'll check to see what I can get it for and then ship to you. Kind of the long way around what with double handling and all but I'll help out if you have the need.

              Thanks all.

Pete - thanks for the heads up on spraying blackcote... I wasn't aware it was any more noxious than any other paint!

Could be a while... I've had the swingarm over 2 years already!

This is a 1100 swingarm, 3.5" 1150 rear wheel & Works shocks swap on the skunk but I also have a tank to finish, mudguard to paint, new carb boots, clutch & throttle cables plus a set of 1100 forks with brand new sliders that I am not sure if I will just "fit" or attempt to transfer the sliders to 1000 lowers. I'm also toying with some cartridge emulators I have... it's like the forth bridge!

(Painting the Golden gate bridge is the equivalent for the Americans.....)
