    GS1000EN 1979 Stepped Seat Change

    Guys
I want to change the stepped seat on my 1979 GS1000EN for a 'none' stepped unit. Does anyone know what other models are a straight swap, or would it be worth carving the foam to the flatter style and just recover....any help much appreciated...attached a photo as I believe everone likes a photo..

The only seat that fits is.....from a GS1000 chain drive, any year. The seats from a G or other capacity bike don't fit (unless you alter them a lot). A decent flat seat will cost you around £1 million, or at least that's what it will feel like as they are getting hard to come by and pricey.

You can cut your foam down as you suggest. Take your time and use the electric carving knife that you normally use for the Sunday joint (that piece of meat that also costs £1 million, not the whacky-baccy).

Or fit a Giuliari. Sporty style and cheaper than original if the cover is ripped - just re-cover the thing.

75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

All you need is the seat foam from a '78 GS1000C, or '79 GS1000N, or '80
GS1000E, the rest of the seat is the same, except the cover. You'll need the non-stepped cover as from the models I just mentioned.

Your seat, while stepped, is not the stock configuration. It's been redone with less foam in the front (short rider?) and more in the back

The E seat just has a bit of a step in it

Here in the States we got a wire wheel model (GS1000C) that has a flat seat

The seat pans are the same. All you need is the proper cover and some new foam

Here's a pic of the only E model that didn't come stepped, this is a '80 GS1000E cream puff, I also believe the '79 GS1000s had a flat seat.

I've had two 80 GS1000E's and they both had flat seats, one of the best seats on a vintage bike. The GS pictured is mine owned since new and still riding it.

You sure do have a nice bike there sir!
I had a friend when I had my Skunk, and he became interested in getting one for himself, he picked up a new blue '80 GS1000E just like yours at end of year close-out, so I remember the pretty blue paint job.
