Scott, one thing I learnt with my polishing was to wipe it down with metho between each compound, otherwise I found the oxide would just build up and up and up.

It also helps a little with cooling the pieces between compounds too.

I didn't go for a mirror shine on my case covers or anything, so I didn't sand at all, just cutting, buffing, and polishing compounds with sisal, stitched rag, then loose leaf calico wheels on the bench grinder.

So denatured alcohol (thanks Google). I'll see what I can do then. I wonder if paint thinner won't work the same way then?

Mineral spirits work just fine. So does lacquer thinner, but I prefer the spirits because it doesn't evaporate as quickly, like alcohol does.

Thinner might, but the metho definitely leaves no residue or anything, and I was just following some directions at the time that I think were on the compound packaging.

Cool, I haven't tried mineral spirits, just the metho.

I agree with Pete, the metholated spirits leaves no residue, hense it is so good as a window and glass cleaner, also makes a pretty powerful moonshine when strained through a half loaf of white bread, to remove the purple colour.

But I guess any spirit based solvent would do just fine, I don't see any reason not to use whatever you can get your hands on easily and cheaply.

i use white spirit inbetween different compounds. cleans it up nice and shows up ant flaws in the polishing. easily wiped off with some kitchen towel then left to dry before going at it again

So the winds held off for most of the afternoon (but when they came they did with a vengeance) and it got pretty warm. So, I took the time to paint the wheels. I'm pretty happy with the way they look so I probably won't change them just yet, at least until I get the tires on and really have a look at it.

                              Nice going Scott, I like.
Are you doing the disks the same colour, or are you going to do a contrast?
