It is a G air filter, i could not get the correct one so i cut the front out, welded in tubes and made rubber sleeves then pushed the air box onto the carbs.     That's sounds like quite a fabrication on that airbox. Alot of patience and
    painstaking ability paid off.
    The seat cover on mine is also a '79 GS1000E Pit Replica also. My pan luckily didn't have any rust on it. If I had the chance to do it over again, I would've painted it like you did yours prior to putting the cover on it. But with the seat cover and seat underpan in place the pan you see looks just like a
    newer used one, if there is such as thing.
