ballpark estamate anyone?
im just being impatient (shops are all closed so i cant call for a quote) but i really really want to paint my bike.so im curious, if I stripped the old paint first, how much should it run me, ballpark figure, to get it painted? any ideas?Tags: None

I think it would highly depend on the paint scheme. Simple one colour shouldn't cos you more than 4-500 bucks. More complex could and should cost $1500 give or take.

There's a company that makes a two part spray can that has gotten decent reviews. SprayMax 2K maybe??

If you get to know your local paint sprayer and you're not too picky about the color, I've heard of guys going in and saying, "Hey, next time you're doing a _____-ish paintjob (blue/black/yellow/etc), how much would you charge me to toss this up in the booth and give it a shot as well?" and coming out of it with a great paint job for a bit of a discount.
Maybe worth a shot.

a quart of good paint is around 30-40 bucks, youll need primer/sealer,base coat,and clear, add catillist,and some sand paper, max 400 for a damn good job,any one says other are ripping you off!
i really hat all these so called artists that think there $hit doesnt stink, there are a ton of real good guys in the world that love to paint, just give one of them a chance, a garage paint job is better than most ppl think
always follow manufacturers directions,and you will have great results, if you have "PATIENCE" ...

i need to put my 2c in ive painted bikes here and there and i charge anywhere between 200 for a solid one color to 1200 for a sport bike with all the fairings an multi colors, im painting a 77 honda 550 tank and sidecovers back to the original scheme for 350 and the guy is happy thats 4 colors and 3coats of clear

That is such BS. You obviously haven't gone into an auto paint store in the last century. A quart of quality paint costs anywhere from $100-$200. $75 for a pint of any metallic color. $50 for a 1/2 pint. $125 a pint for anything with pearl in it. A quart of high-fill primer with catalyst is another $125. Clear costs $100 a quart, plus the catalyst at $40. A gallon of reducer costs $60. A gallon of (cheap) thinner just for cleaning purposes costs $20. Good sandpaper costs at least a buck a sheet. Tape, 6-8 bux a roll. It takes way more then just following the manufactuers directions to get great results. It takes knowing how to do it or to have someone there that does. It takes knowing how to do the correct prep and finish work. It takes knowing what to do when you screw up. Whether it's done in a garage or a custom shop makes no difference what-so-ever. It's the experience, the skill, and the attention to detail applied by the guy with the gun in his hand that takes a so-so paint job to a much, much higher level.1979 GS1000S,

Lot of funny information in here.
I run an Autobody shop in New York... Our paint and materials cost is through the roof ... Like someone stated already you need Primer, Sand Paper, Paint, Clear Coat (if it's two stage), tape, de-greaser, body filler, and more!
Spray Guns? Do you have one? Compressor?
If you don't have any of these, doing it yourself is going to cost you more money and time than bringing it some place and having it professionally done.
If you have the time to take your time, learn and acquire little by little what you need... Then try to DIY, but painting requires nice prepped surface, clean + well lit spraying environment, and some skills.
It's not like PAINT is the only thing you need.
