Cylinder block colour

What color would you paint a cylinder block that was modified with a big bore kit.

I've thought about high heat black just to show there is something different in an otherwise stock looking engine.


What would promote the best heat dissipation?

I dunno that any one colour would be "cooler" (in the thermal sense) than another but there I guess technically since you're creating more surface area with a couple layers of paint it could have a greater cooling effect.

We're it me, I'd paint it bright red like they do with all the big boomer Ducati and aprillia machines

Black is said to dissipate heat better than any other colour.

I agree with the black.

Note that Suzuki painted their engines black, starting with the '83 models.

Polished covers make a nice accent, too.

spray paint is $7.99

I could go with either.

With the powder it will be at least a 2 week wait for that price.

You really think that a powder coating oven puts more heat stress than running the bike in the twisties?

The cylinders did not pop up, the block fell.

Either support the block so the cylinders hang freely or turn the block upside down.

Scratch that, The block was set on a shelf while baking. That explains it

I didn't do the cooking I just had to fix it afterwards

The guy doing it thought it would get to hot for powdercoat so he suggested ceramic coat instead which requires a higher baking temperature and longer duration. Even then It has to go on the bike and be cured over time.

I'd rather not go that route again and use high heat powder instead of ceramic.

What would the engine typically get to for temperature?
