    saddlemen replacement seat cover?

anyone have a photo of one of these? looking for a good but affordable replacement cover for my 79 850.
all i see on their website is a list of item numbers and i'd like to have a sense of what i'm ordering before i ask a local shop to get one for me.

certainly open to other suggestions if there are vendors you've had a good experience with.

    thanks!

Check out Pitreplica on ebay. The cover I got for my bike looks totally OEM. There is a thread on here about a comparison.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

There is a guy on Ebay that sells his home made covers for about $26 each.
They don't look stock but, they are extremely well made and do look better that the Saddleman covers.
I bought one just to see. Well worth the gamble.
It even has a little extra padding under the vinyl and the sticking is forst class!
I can get pic's and an address if you wish as it is still in the box waiting for a seat to go on.
BTW, I also have a couple of seats with the Pit replica and Saddleman covers on them.

I went with the Saddlemen seat cover on my GS1100E and am very happy with it. The vinyl is very heavyweight and the stitching is well done. There is a drawstring around the base that helps take some of the strain off the vinyl where it's stapled.

Three things are critical to getting a good installation:
            1) Patience
            2) A good (great) staple gun. Get an air powered one and you will wonder how you lived without it.
            3) A high-powered heat gun to heat and stretch the vinyl. Be careful not to burn the vinyl, but the heat gun is essential to soften the vinyl and stretch it without tearing the seams.

If you have a flat seat,I wonder if the GS1000 seat cover from Pit R would work?

if they don't have your model, and you supply them with yours so they can make one, you get your new cover for free.....

                      Hi,

I put a Saddleman cover on mine a few years ago. There are pictures in the seat cover replacement guide on my little website.

                      Thank you for your indulgence,

                      BassCliff

The seat cover that I got for my "L" banana seat didn't fit well, and they put the reinforced hole for the seat lock in the wrong spot. I was and still am not impressed with Saddlemen. I replaced the banana seat with a king/queen from them, it was 2" short for the 1980 GS850L, I'm sure it would fit the '82 fine, as the seat is shorter by that same amount.
Now, I've got the seat from my '81 850G parts bike on my "L" and it's the best one so far.
