My '83 1100GL. I hardly ever ride it but it has really served me well and deserves more attention...

Guest repliedMy first ride on the GL told me the bars needed to be replaced. The day after I brought the bike home, I ordered a set of Daytona bars. While waiting for the new bars, I rotated the
stockers so they were lower, and a more natural position (as compared to a wheel barrow). Big improvement. I have the new bars in the garage, waiting to be installed, while I figure
out the plan for the cables. I read various stories; re-route the original, or purchase cables for a GS. Any one have a definitive solution for the loooong stock cables?

Guest repliedTry some Daytona or Euro bars on that 650 and see what you think. I didn't enjoy the stock bars at all.

It's always good to be back where you belong.... Mine has 48000 and runs well- a nice cruiser, just what I wanted back in 1981 (and more so now) .Plenty of neglected ones out there, so scooping parts is easy!

Picked up late last fall. Very clean, 14000 miles. Had what i thought to be the usual "sat too long, gummed up carb" issue. Got it on the cheap. Cleaned carbs, found hole in one diaphragm. Replaced, still didn't run worth a hoot. Further investigation revealed that someone had been fooling with the cam chain, and got it off a tooth. Re timed, now runs great. I had a new 650 G back in the day, and regretted
letting it go. Wasn't sure I'd like the GL, but it's growing on me. Very comfortable to ride, and very smooth. After a variety of bikes between the two 650's, I think I'm back where I belong.Attached Files
