    Frame and painted part cleanup

    What's the harshest tool you'd use on our frames and other painted parts? Would #0000 steel wool be too harsh?

    A shop rag is the coursest I would use...Steel wool and paint are a NO NO.

    I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

      Not even a 3-M sponge? I've got some places on my frame that have some impregnated stains and some welds that have a bit of rust.

        If you want to freshen the paint use something like 3M scratch remover and lots of cotton T shirt rags. Heres some pics of the way it refreshed the paint on the 73 TX 750 I recently got.

            Try squirting the rust spots with some penetrating oil, it will dissolve it, then wipe clean with something softer, then touch-up the paint on the welds with a jar of Testors model paint, should be able to match something close, for small areas, it shouldn't be too noticeable.

            Bug and tar removal at most auto parts store, or the good nail polish remover with acetone should combat the stains, try it in an inconspicuous spot to ensure it doesn't discolor the existing paint, but it should be fine.
