looking at a gpz headlight fairing

i found an orginal gpz headlight fairing...they want $20 for it...its in useable condition..

anyone else ever converter that to work on a gs? its also the big square light

I would go for it. You know its hard to find ANY rectangle headlight fairing for cheap...I have not done it, but am sure you can use some of universal sort of rod mounts and use some plastic, sheet metal or rubber stripping to close off/pretty up the headlight hole.
Like I said , for the money I would try it for sure.

Maier does still make one for both round and square headight bikes.
They are decent quality, too, and can be had cheaper than at the factory website.

I have the larger round hole version; it required cutting to fit the train light

I had one for my '81 GS1000G and did not have to cut anything. Good product and looks good too. Be advised that wind protection is very very minimal.

Cut the fairing so the bars clear? Or change the bars. Either is a fine option.

I have euro bars on my 850 and they are really nice.

I would think that clip-ons, in mounted below the top clamp, will also not fit. If you mount them above the top clamp, they might clear, but then you will have to mess with the steering geometry.

I'd put euro bars on. Or cut the fairing around the clubmans.

I know your going for a look, but Euro bars look good, and have a way more comfortable riding position than most.

i reallllly didnt want to cut it...then i thought man more money i gotta spend on a new set of bars...but i eventually sucked it up and did....

its a 200% differnce then no fairing....i absoulutley love it...im in the proccess of painting the fairing and fender now...

also i found a abs front fender for 6 bucks that i made fit...much much lighter then my old steel one (like the 850 is a race machine)

WOW! Very nicely done, I think you should update your sig picture now, and I'm thinking I like the blackened windscreen over the clear on I'm using that I made.

                          Paint? The black looks awesome!

What process did you use to make your windscreen?
