    want to paint carbs...

carbs were dipped last week and disassembling them now. was thinking I should wash bodies/soak in soapy water and dry for paint? Then rattle can of primer and then paint..correct? Also it's a Maroon 79'G what color? thinkin maroon..yes/no?
Then what-get a buff wheel for the drill to shine up the bowl and slider cover??

Your wording makes me have to ask....did you disassemble the carbs for dipping?

you have to disassemble the carbs completely before dipping. what are you dipping them in?

if they have been dipped before then they should have already been scrubbed with hot soapy water and rinsed, right after dipping them

utoh you got me! I sprayed with 3m carb cleaner then blew dry after dipping, never went to the bath..lol. I'd rather skip the dip and go right to the warm soapy water bath to remove any gasoline residue that may be present....as long as the primer adheres well. Suppose I could get another can of 3m carb cleaner spray before the bath....

there is a LOT of prep work to painting carbs properly. use the search function and check out how the other guys have gone about it

Uh what? you dipped them assembled? If that is correct. no no no, gotta be disassembled first. Redip them, get one of the tutorials from Basscliff's website and follow it. Order new orings from Cycleorings.com. You are gonna need some fuel bowl gaskets, inspect your floats (weight them if you have too) inspect your fuel needle and seats. Lots of stuff you gotta to with rebuild carbs.

                    I thought I smelled a rat!
                    No spray....DIP! ha ha
Yes, I would not even waste my time thinking about how my carbs are going to look when I was not going to properly disassemble, dip and reassemble later with new o rings. New o rings are a MUST, not a maybe.
Imagine yourself in the future sitting on a lawn chair staring at your pretty carbs on your non running bike in the garage. he he he....that may be your future if you dont get into your carbs right.
1 disassemble, every jet, choke, o ring, tube, everything, (often the only things a member here does not remove is the brass butterfly and the immediate lever connected to it.
2 scrub, degrease, knock the big chunks/deposits off, then dip for 12-24 hours each body. Hot rinse with soapy water, hot rinse, compressed air to blow out thouroughly.
3 Now you have to scrb them up some more getting any crusty aluminum, leftover deposits off. You must have clean bare metal to paint.
Hot wash again, maybe a blast of carb cleaner through the small holes again as recommemded. then wash.
4 tape off and plug off any functional hole/opening.
Then you are ready to paint. I am not sure of the best paint/primer but use the search function to see what others have done.
Ultrasonic cleaning is also an option to get your carbs extremely clean.
Long row to hoe, but you can do it....just have to do it right.

I already did all that stuff! and yes I did COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLE the carbs ...new seals, needle n seats, fuel pilot needle/screws w/springs. search function says I need more memory???

goto the carbs section or the appearance section and scroll through the threads. you will soon come across a relative thread

I think he is saying he is REdisassembling them for the paint process.

yea I'm thinking of painting the carb bare-bodies with spray paint and was wondering what paint to get? Somebody had told me once but I can't find that thread.

                              Look up Renobruce's posts

He doesn't post much anymore, but his carbs are awesome

                              Here's one

If you sell parts or provide services for GS series motorcycles, place a description of it in this forum.

I don't think he offers the painting service anymore

It takes lots of prep to get the painr correct
