poor man's saddle vinyl tiny tear repair that works

I have the stitched vinyl saddle type. All the thread is gone though, only tiny holes are left. Some of them started to connect and form a tear right under what my wife calls my bony arse.

After looking through here, I found an old post mentioning the shoe goo stuff.
I gave it a try and it worked. Here is how I did:

    - opened the tear completely, X-acto-cutting the white clothing still barely holding the vinyl together
    - shoved an oval cold patch from my bicycle flat repair kit (removed the foil first and left the transparent film), orange side up.
    - freaked out that the orange would show if ever the mending would gape and took the risk.
    - positioned the patch right across the tear with tweezers. Not extremely easy. Think "operation" skill game.
    - Cheerfully stuffed shoe goo in the wound with an ice cream stick. Paying attention not to put too much and covering all surfaces, the cold patch and the hidden side of the vinyl. Not being afraid though.
    - Left the "wound" open for 1 minute.
    - pressed the lips together.
    - wiped the excess coming out with naphtha. Freaked out a bit more.
    - pressed lips again with my palm.
    - left a small thick polypropylene bag full of BBs as a soft weight overnight.
    - prayed as usual
    - Tadaaa! Mending is perfect.
Attention, the vinyl warped a bit, but it warps the same on the other side, under my bony arse. I am pretty perfectionist, and I was satisfied with the result, so i think you would be too.

Nice! And I was expecting another 1,001 uses for duct tape thread.

I can assume where the tear used to be, but I can't be sure. That means you did something right.

I love my classic too much.
(Yet I'm considering ratting it. Yeah, the big small word that doesn't seem to be understood on this side of the ocean)
