Yes that might work but this is what I use http://www.wmbarr.com/product.aspx?catid=72&prodid=136. I bought mine from a local auto paint store but have seen it in Oreillys and autozone

SO! After much contemplation while removing the paint from the tank, I have decided to just leave it as bare metal and to seal it with something to prevent rust. Any suggestions?

A good 2 part clear coat or a bunch of oil and repeat often.

Why stop there? You have the hard part done. This is what can be done with a rattle can and some patience/practice.

The reason i'm stopping there is because i'm kind of impatient lol

Can anyone give me an estimate of how many cans of the sprymax they used? I have to order it and don't want to be short, it's for front fender, tank, side panels and rear tail of a 81 gs 850. Thanks

I tried painting myself but the results were less than spectacular. I've sent 3 bikes to a professional who does perfect work. In the end I decided I didn't have the environment, equipment or skills to do it right and the costs of redoing it 4 times mounted.

I stick to the wrenches and let the painters do their work.

I have used 2 cans on a tank (even the underside) and side covers on a GS 1100 GL. So for yours I would say 3 may cover but I'd order 4.

be careful with your work until the Spraymax is on it, one tiny drop of gas will ruin your day INSTANTLY.

Towmater and I just built a stand out of a old rim and a piece of exhaust tubing and we hacked a old frame We slid one pipe inside of another and drilled a hole and put a bolt so the height of the tank could be adjusted and welded it all together, It makes a great place to sand, prime ,sand ,paint, clear , wet sand , buff easy to build !
