+1 on that. Pretty much what I have begun doing.

Personally I think just having a GS sets you apart from the crowd; do what makes you happy though

Forget about making the bike stand out... make yourself stand out with a whirlybird helmet !

I actually do have a Harley fender since my last bike was a 74 Harley hardtail however a bad winter for the construction industry forced me to sell it but ive still got a few parts. I'm going to have to look into the goldwing bars and a lighting upgrade wouldn't be a bad idea since my ride home has no street lights. I'll have to see what kind of fabrication will be involved to mount the rear fender since I really dont want to disturb the frame. Im trying to build a good looking bike on a shoestring budget with just a touch of personalization. As far as other gs's around where I live goes ive seen a few heavily modified 750's, a couple of nice original 550's and theres usually a few projects for sale on craigslist every winter.

That's the first thing that popped into my head too, it did look pretty good on that bike.

Restore yours to all original bone stock condition. No one else will have one like it.

This is what I would do personally, if my bike wasn't too far gone.

An original restoration wil be in the the works but right now my budget wont allow it. Even with all original parts I'm thinking of doing some custom paint on the tank, side covers, frame and motor. Ill try to post some pictures as I can. Does anyone have any ideas for a brighter head light that will fit the factory bucket or something that will look close to factory.
