    How much area 2K spray can.

    Redoing my 85 750EF(formerly Old Yeller).Going to do black with red,the base paint will be lacquer because it's easy to get and spray.Need to know how far one of the 2K clear coat cans will cover.

    I have quite an area to cover,will 2 cans cover it at least twice?

    Probably 2-3 coats. I used 3 cans on my gs 850 and got about 8 coats. Awesome stuff btw

      Hey Greg what kinda seed did you plant in that lawn of yours that your sprouting motorcycle parts...????

      Wish I could find the same, I need to grow some new bits for my FZ.....LOL

        with one can i was able to cover 2 coats on gas tank, tail section and side covers,
        you'll probably need 3 cans but i am not a pro

          What am I thinking,I have some left over from when it was painted the last time.Wish I could grow a new fairing side to GK.

              Just guestimate the math based on estimated surface area and 2k's expected yield.

              Approx. 0.5m² - 1m² / spray can depending on the application thickness and substrate

                I did a tank & a fender, 3-4 coats from memory with 1 can.

                What I have found out since is that even though the 2K top coat is harder, if you have a lot of base coats/primer underneath then you can "dent" the paint. (A magnetic map holder I have put some nice dimples in the paint for me).

                I've spilt gas on it with no issues though & it gives a good sheen.

                Give it as long as you can to "gas out". It's still hardening for a long time after spraying.

                  Greg, I must differ, I would estimate 4 cans minimum, that 750 has a lot of body work with that full fairing, a lot more han the naked GS' mentioned.
                  Besides that, if you are doing black, you want to bring that deep shine and lustre out, and the only way to do that is with lots of coats of clear, the more coats, the deeper the gloss.
                  look at those gorgeous tanks Larry turns out, he lays down up to eight coats of clear, if you want to do the black justice and make the best of it, two coats just ain't going to get you there.
                  Just my humble opinion.
                  And yes, let the clear gas well between coats, and before polishing.

                    Thanks for the kind words Flyboy. Yeah, I spray as many as 8 coats if I'm trying to bury stripes to the point of not being able to feel the edges once the parts are polished, which all the paint jobs I did seemed to require. That's done in two stages, four coats each and sanded in between the first 4 and last 4 coats with a couple of days of dry time between the 2 sessions. If you're not trying to bury stripes to that extent, then you can get away with probably 4 coats..but you need at least that many to make sure you don't blow through into the base coat if you're planning on a final smooth sanding to achieve that beautiful glass-like finish. I would have 4 cans of the 2K on hand for all those parts as Flyboy suggested..better to have a little too much then finding out you don't have enough and having to stop to order or buy more right in the middle of the job.

                      That is 2K in a can so yes I have left over clear.Made 1 batch without enough catalyst,it did 5 or 6 coats.The problem was it was VERY soft

                      Thanks for the advice Stan and the tips Larry.I have a compressor and a gun.OK it's not a great gun but it did the job the last time.I think I'll get more reducer and use up the stuff I have.Yeah I'll add enough catalyst this time.

                        Ahh..good. I think you shoulda gone the gun route to begin with. Didn't know you had the option. Not sure what your material's clear mixture ratios are, PPG was always 4/1/1. Were you using the see through ratio mixing cups? They make it a snap. Something it took me years to discover, is that hardener really has a short life span. If you open the bottle, you pretty much have to use it within a few weeks..so only buy as much as you need. It breaks down pretty quickly.

                          Was just a case of not reading the side of the can Did it for the first time today It's Nason brand clear,same 4 to 1 as PPG. The REALLY stupid thing is I had one of those clear mixing cups.Thanks for telling me about the hardener,that would have been bad.The base(?)is about 2 years old,will it be OK or should I get new?

                            Ib never use paint, hardner, etc past six months, but i'm a perfectionist. Not sure why a rattle can was ever a consideration when you have a gun. Even a cheap CP (harbor) is better then a rattle.

                              OK,new plan time.Get the 750 and 1000 bits ready for clear then buy all new for the gun.The gun is a Campbell Hausfeild siphon I got with a compressor "kit".
