    Repainting Brake Calipers

Do most of you strip your brake caliper before repainting it or is it better to paint over existing paint? If you do strip it, is sandblasting a caliper going to cause me issues with braking later? (much like don't blast a head to keep media out of the oil passages)

I used a wire wheel to strip mine of the old paint, some stayed on, some was down to nothing, then they were masked off and cleaned really well, and painted, so far no issues at all.

Are you doing a restoration project of some kind on a GS? Let everyone see what you are doing by posting the details here.

Cleaned mine with Simple Green, then used a fibre wheel to cleanup up any areas that were showing signs of loose paint and used 320 grit W&D to feather any edges, then Simple Green again to degrease, hot water rinse and blow dry first with compressed air then blow dryer.

I used VHT satin black caliper paint, it looks really close to original and not too shiny.
If you want the paint to be brake fluid resistant don't forget to cure it, 200F for 1 hour.

Also a tip for masking, I used foam packing material cut to size and placed it in the holes and places I didn't want paint, quick and easy.
Worked really well and was fast.
