    1980 GS750E - will an L seat fit?

    I've got a 1980 GS750ET and am wondering if I can use a seat from a same-year GS750L.

My ultimate goal is to get a little more feet on the ground-- I can get toes on both sides but not heels on either. I haven't replaced the rear suspension yet but aim to soon, and I'm hoping to get shocks that have a very slight bit of lowering to them. So, looking for the combination of a little from the seat and a little from the shocks.

I really don't want to shave the seat that's on there now, as the bike is in extremely good original shape and if the day ever comes that I'm forced to sell it, I want to be able to sell it as unmodified. Hence the desire to pick up the L seat. Is it a different pan or is it a good straight swap?

    Thanks!

What you're hoping for is not feasible-much better to cruise the used parts networks, ebay, etc, and re-shape one from those sources.

If you don't want to shave the current seat, you certainly won't like what the "L" seat does to you.

Just a suggestion: do a little shave on the seat, but only from the sides at the front.
That will allow you to put your legs down straighter, without having to splay them out so far,
and it will do it without affecting the seating position/comfort while riding.

I do want to shave the seat. But not the one that's on there now, because I want to have a stock seat to sell it with if that day ever comes. So what I was considering is trying to find an E seat for sale (no luck so far, looking for a couple months) which I could then shave to taste, or just get an L seat which looks about right as-is.

So the L doesn't fit on an E then? Different pan, or doesn't line up with fairing, or both?

        Thanks for the input, guys

            Both, actually.

The pan is drastically different, and the L seat does not have to line up with any tail fairing, so there is no chance that it will "just happen" to line up with yours.

Recycled64 you mention used parts networks... So far I've just been looking on eBay and Craigslist with no luck. Where should I look where I can actually find the seat I need?

              Thanks!

Might want to look at getting some shorter rear shocks for the bike and raising the front forks up some in the triple tree. That would lower the bike some to get your feet on the ground.
