    A 85 750 seat question(poll)

    So to get an idea what everybody else thinks here's a poll


    Option 1;The 85 seat with the grab bar.


    Option 2:an 83 seat without a grab bar.
    Both seats will need new covers so there's not going to be any savings with either option.I'm torn ,the 85 seat/bar combination is pretty rare and has been commented on by others in the know about the 3 gen 750.On the other hand the 83 seems to have a "cleaner look" to it.

    without the grab rail looks much better IMO. especially if the seat is recovered well.

      Without grab bar looks better but seems to need something to tie in the front and rear parts of the fairing, almost like a fold up lip strip panel. The grab handle mounting did that, but bike looks better without the grab handle.. (dunno if that's explained well enough?) An ABS strip, attached to the underside of the seat, folded up along the bottom edge of the seat. We did something like that for a friend's bike just using a heat gun to heat the ABS until soft enough and its own weight folded down enough against the wooden template we constructed.. He attached it to the underside of the seat with snap fasteners..

      Just a thought.. something like this...

        Hey.....if you want more opinions and some pics...I did the same when I was rebuilding mine...

        and by the way....

        I left the strap off, after the seat was redone....

            How about the Mustang solo seat that I have;

            I will give it to you for $50. plus shipping, need to thin out I believe I've sold my house finally after 4 years

              Kid of funny you should say something like that.The fill in between the side cover and tail piece is actually an add onto the base.Your idea sounds like what Suzuki did with the 700's.I REALLY don't want to do anymore painting on this thing.

              Yeah I remember that thread,IIRC I voted no.
              Just a couple of things I should mention.If I keep the grab handle it is the vinyl will be repainted with vinyl paint and the steel will get a coat of Appliance "epoxy".Noticed to the 85's rear foam looks like it might have been cut to make it easier for the PO to use a single piece of vinyl.Have 3 83 seats with "virgin" foams,thinking I'll put one on the 85 base if I decide to go that way.

                That is a nice offer hjfisk,shipping it to Canada will be another $50 at least.I already have 3 83 seats here,not really needing another one.

                  boy that's a hard one to choose. But it might be that if you straighten the grabrail (it's a bit tilted back now) it will not bug you.
                  Personal pref, but I often need a place to tie stuff ..raingear or sleeping bag etc. although the base of the turn signals can serve too...

                        Confused... are the red and yellow bikes the same bike??

                        I'm a function over form kind of guy so if it were my bike, I'd keep the grab rail for reasons of utility no matter how it affected the overall look. I use mine all the time. Mostly when moving the bike around in the garage, but for other reasons as well.

                        I think it would look pretty fly with the yellow scheme if painted silver/grey to match the frame.

                            ... I mean it looks to tilted back a tiny bit more than it was designed to be, in the top pictures...just a teeny bit. But if you can't see it, well -it's a non-issue!

                              I voted for the '83 seat. Had my seat done by Sargents way back in 1990. Even back then nobody made covers, Sargents is kinda pricey but they do really execellent work that holds up. Mine still looks good after 24 years.
