More comfortable seat for my 1100G

I need to have a new cover installed which is no problem, as the local upholstery shop can easily make whatever I want. But the 30+ year old foam is not comfortable at all and I want to do some long rides with my wife on this bike. So I am trying to find out what is the most comfortable foam/gel options for a long distance rider. Either pre-formed or something I need to shape myself. Or maybe a gel insert into my current stock foam seat that is still in good shape.

    Any suggestions/experiences welcome.

The upholstery shop should have the different types/densities of foam to make a custom seat. Have you asked them?
There are many video's on YouTube showing how to make them. Perhaps you can do it yourself?

Although "gel" can be very comfortable while riding, I would hesitate to install it.

Leave the bike in the sun for an hour or so without shading the seat, you will quickly see why.

I have re-done my seats with the Sargent Supercell foam and been happy with the results.

I'm gonna try this. I got $25 worth of gel but haven't done it yet.

Not sure about the gel or any of the after market stuff, I have not played with it as such, but the advice I can give you is, which ever way you decide to go, do not cut the seat, or reshape it, stick with the stock profile.
As far as I am concerned, you will go a long way to find a more comfortable seat than a "G" seat, I have owned and ridden many , many motorcycles and have put on over half a million kilometers on GS series Suzukis, 375000Km on my GS1000G and am yet to find a better long distance seat.
maybe look at replacing the foam with the same density as the OEM stuff and have it cut to the same profile.
Keep your eye on ebay for a good second hand original seat, they can be had for a decent price if you snoop out the bargains and are not in too much of a hurry.
I bought a pearl of a seat for my 1000G for around $25 if I remember correctly.
