    Cooley colors....still

Hi guys, i have found a code for Grabber Blue as noted earlier in this thread, but am stuck for the white colour (St Lawrence White?). Can anyone help with a code for the GS1000S white, Pref Dupont code, or maybe even a vehicle with a similar white. I visited my friendly auto paint dealer today and the Dupont codes listed in GSR didn't come up in their computer. Any help appreciated. Ta, Adrian

I got Dupont original paint scans at home will post them after work. In the mean time, search Cooley paint scans and see if theres a thread with the PPG scans i posted.

For my bikes I had a local paint shop color match off an S sidecover. The white has faded significantly over the years though; clear turned yellow. Choose to move the white color to match the white on the Reproduction Decal stripes instead. I think the white now is a little too bright, but it looks nice with the stripes. If I could do it again I'd split the difference between the stripe color and the faded paint color. Guess what I'm driving at is there is no correct answer as to what the color (or formula) should be. You just need to make a judgement for yourself.

Good info Chuck, but the codes are for Chromabase which is Dupont.

Ford Wimbledon White is also a very close color to the original.

The ones posted in my other thread that I linked here are in fact Dupont codes according to English supply whose gun took the PPG scans.

I gave them the ones Trombleys did and they told me those were Dupont codes and they are a PPG dealer. In any case now we have two scans.

These are the PPG scans taken from my bike about 2 weeks ago. Note they even say PPG at the bottom..

Thanks guys, I took the original codes from Chuck to my Dupont Dealer and it came up as 'not known' on their computer. I will try the later scans. My GS was painted black when I got it, and I was being lazy- there are a couple of blue/white GS-S models in Christchurch, and I probably could borrow a cover to get colour match, but you know how it is..... Got my engine in one lump back from Greg T yesterday, new camchain and cams dialled in, a couple of seals, light hone, bulletproof old bus with 130k on it! New tyres being fitted now, finally geting a bit of enthusiasm now its starting to look like a motorbike again after 18 months!

so, from what i read here. no one has any idea what the colors are. PPg or Dupont will be different colors. no? had my wheels painted with the chromabase and the painter says the wheels are slightly bone in color. is that correct?

If you want a "pure white" you need to disregard the scans. I dont know what the factory did but my paint is the original that came on my bike and it is NOT a snow white pure white..its a little off. Thats all i can say on the subject.

And from our resident guru Larry, the colors names he uses are EGRET WHITE and ST. LAURENT BLUE. I may have the blues first name wrong so do some research on that one. There are many threads to search on thus subject.

As far as if its a Dupont or PPG is of no matter...there`are measurements in how many grams of each tint on the scans. If the paint mixer follows that then its gonna be what the scanner said it is.

As mentioned, Wimbledon white from Ford is really, really close. It's not a pure white, but an off-white as it should be. St. Lawrence white is also what I have used in the past. Both are nearly identical.

Just remember guys, if you are using a scan of 30 year old white paint to match color, your new paint will be more yellow than it was originally. Instead of doing that I had the white matched to the white in the Reproduction Decals 1000S graphics. I think that's too bright though. I think the "true" color is going to be somewhere in between.
