Sissy Bar Question

Does anyone have a suggestion for finding a short backrest for my 78 750. Something like I have on the V-Star here:



I imagine that finding the backrest would not be too hard, but the mounting would be the problem.

Probably gonna have to be attached to a rack. Unless you have some fab/weld skills.

Putting a sissy bar on a E is sacrilege ! But I understand if you have a rider. Much safer/comfortable for them and less stressful for you not worrying about loosing a passenger. I put one on for my wife but she hardly ever goes for a ride. So I just live with it. Makes a nice mount for my tail pack. Got to stash her purse somewhere anyway ; )

I am starting to think about trips for the summer and am selling my V-Star. I have a large bag to fit on the back. You are right about the no-no of a sissy bar. Seems like the only ones you would see back in the day was those dorky tall ones that had the curly-cue metal on the back of them. Same pattern as a wrought iron fence. Good lord they were cheesy.

I have some Nelson-Rigg saddlebags coming and am looking at seat bags, but I already have one that is nice but it needs a sissy bar and rack to attach it to.

I mounted one on my son's "Rat Bagger", and did not use a luggage rack.

Had to make some custom mounts, as he needed to have the ability to fold it down to fit under a cover on the back of a pickup truck.

Steve, that is pretty much what I had in mind. I think that I would like to have flatter steel rather than the tubular type of supports. But yours does have the little curly-Qs. The 650 makes a great sport tourer. I had seen that bike before and the paint job really stands out and with the hard bags it truly makes the bike unique without messing with the good GS lines.

What is the little movie about showing the brake and turn lights? Maybe some shark music in the background would be nice.

Once again, somebody sees something that I don't. When I click on my pictures, I only get the picture.

Not sure what I need to change in my Photobucket settings, but it is only supposed to have the one picture linked, not the whole album.

Anyway, to answer your question, the lights on the back of the saddlebags are actually trailer lights, and have yellow lenses. The 'bulbs' inside are dual-color LED towers. We have added a dual-intensity adapter to give full tail/brake/turn lighting there, as the red LEDs shine through the yellow lenses as a red light.

The red tail lights are not so visible during the day, but they look good at night.
The brighter brake lights and the yellow turn signals are easily seen in daytime.
