    How to clean SS header pipe...

    My son's project bike ('80 GS1100LT) has a Supertrapp exhaust system on it. The pipes are made from 300 series stainless, and they are dirty looking, mostly from being old & heat.

    Looking for easy ways to clean them up, and was hoping someone here has done this before.

    Chemical cleaning of some sort would be best I think, what do you guys think??

    I used a HF buffer with Dark Grey Rouge intended for SS.

      Hey Mike, what about abrasive cloth strips? Shoestring with 220 or 320 grit? Don't think you can chemically clean them.

        If you want a brushed stainless look I guess. If you want them polished use the rouge. This is much better than that Magic blue stuff that did virtually nothing.

        I have polished my SS Yoshi 4:2:1 pipes at least twice.

          lots of the the old supertrapps are brushed finish. none of mine are polished, they clean up really well with sandpaper; shop-rolls, inch wide strips ......

            Yes, this one has a brushed finish, but quite dirty...

            What grit did you use, would you have a picture of the results by any chance?

              320 grit, i think. Cleans up nice. Sorry, not much for pics
