    Seat Trim Repair GS1000G

I have the original plastic seat trim which came with the bike. The red paint is fair, the faux chrome is pealing in parts.

The securing tabs have broken off.

Has anyone restored or repaired these successfully.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

A few years after I bought my bike new in 1981, a couple of those securing tabs broke off. I was able to secure the trim strip with clear fishing line wrapped around the trim strip and through the little hole in the seat, with a knot at the back.

Still holding up to this day!

I had a few of those screws broken on mine. The screws were still in the seat. I fished them out, put them back on the trim with Gorilla super glue and re attached.

It looks like the studs were originally attached with hot glue. Seemed to work ok.

my trim strips are held on with black silicone gasket maker. Used c-clamps until it set up. Hot glue might work too...

Ah Johno, my seat trim is missing altogether, as is the trim off 90% of 1000G's, they seem to be the first bits to fall off, along with the little trim piece around the tail.
If yours are still off, please could you do me a huge favour mate.
Getting hold of some is almost impossible, so I am going to make up a set for myself, could you please measure yours for me, width, length, length to the turn, with of the cut out on the middle, thickness and depth of the cut out in the middle.
          Would be much appreciated.

My plan is to cut the profile out of aluminum flat bar, then mill the center groove in and weld attachments on the back, maybe little studs that secure with a nut from the inside.

              Flyboy,

That is what Suzuki should have done in '81 but it looks like the accountants got their way.

              Measurements:

              Length 610mm

              Height 20mm

The recess is 10mm wide with 5mm above and below.

The recess depth is 1-2mm. Difficult to measure.

The other end is cut off by 10mm as in the photo below.

                Flyboy,

You should be able to do better than Suzuki.

I look forward to seeing the photos
