Anyone ever order a side cover from the parts places?

I'm looking on Partzilla fisch and it's showing the plastic side covers are available and not obsolete. Considering the outrageous prices from used side covers and no right side covers on ebay I thought I'd give this a shot.

Have not ordered from Partzilla before, usually because they cost more. They show that right cover for $84.10.

Parts Outlaw shows the same cover for $78.03.

Partzilla will charge $8.95 shipping (based on purchase price) for a total of $93.05

When you check out at Parts Outlaw, enter the word "BANG" in the promo window, you will get free shipping, for a total of $78.03.

Personally, I like the idea of saving $15 here and there.

When you get your cover, let us know whether it was painted or just primered.

Most likely raw black plastic. ABS I think.

There is a company in the UK that is selling new side covers for the 1000 chain models, not sure about the 850 models. If I remember right they were $50 or so, I'll try and find the site for you, or maybe someone else here has it.

I was just showing partzilla cause they used OEM numbers. I would search around first before ordering. I thought it odd they showed this for sale and not obsolete.

I saw there's on ebay and it was $50 but I don't think they're made quite the same, they're repos. Plus shipping cost and wait time is a huge factor for me.

The only vendor that does NOT use OEM part numbers is Bike BANDIT. While they occasionally have some deals on other stuff, they are ALWAYS more expensive on OEM parts. For example, that same cover is $87.10 from them. I still firmly believe that they EARNED the name "BANDIT".

I ordered a side cover for my 1980 850GL from an OEM vendor after waiting months for the right deal to show up here or on eBay. This and the 1000GL were a one-year design as far as bodywork goes, so side covers and the like are somewhat scarce. (And then of course, somebody was selling a pair here a few weeks later... sigh...)

Back in the day, I assume they came painted and ready to go because most bikes had different part numbers for different colors. If it has a superceded part number, you're probably going to get a flat black plastic cover, so expect to paint and stripe it yourself if you care about cosmetics.

From the factory they originally came painted and decaled. The aftermarket ones now being sold in most cases are raw and will need paint and decals from my experience.

All of the new ones I have seen for sale are black plastic. The decals, if you can find them, are not cheap. You can probably find a painter to replicate the designs for less than what the decals would cost, seeing as they'd be doing the side covers anyhow.

I have recently run across an Israeli EBay seller that has a lot of NOS Suzuki parts. Unfortunately, they don't have the larger bikes like we do in North America, so it would be a long shot to find something for your 850, but they did have plenty of parts for the 550 and smaller, including some painted covers.

Thanks guys, I'll probably just fab something up for both sides. I'm trying to make a cafe racer so I'm not concerned so much about the cover, just hate staring at a fuse box and stuff on that side.

Got side panels for my 1980 GS750 for $110. Shipping took forever. Couldnt track it for like 2 weeks, shows up in Cali, then they upgrade me to overnight shipping for free and they're there the next day
