Speedo/tach bracket making question....

I am making a bracket to hold my speedo/tach (aftermarket....OEMs were broken and garbage) and was wondering what gauge metal to use to fabricate it? I'll be picking up a small sheet and was curious what to get. I want it to be sturdy, but I may need to bend it in a couple places depending on the final design.

i used some 1/4in rods and welded spacer or nuts to it

You can get 1/8 aluminum at most shops that sell R/C cars for maybe $20. They sell small sheets that are usually 12" x 12". I used it in the past to fabricate chassis side plates for an R/C rock crawler I was building and found it to be durable yet pliable enough to be bent into shape if needed.
