Pop's work looks good, I would'nt worry about anything, He's been painting forever, "tricks of the trade", I've got 35 years of auto painting under my belt! Everyone is talking about the solvents that carry the paint out of the gun evaporating. One trick is to sand your finish as you were planning on doing and let the paint cure out for a day or so, then apply your stickers. A good tack coat of clear to seal over the decal, then let it rip!, Clear tends to sag off the decal first before the rest of the basecoat. I think your in good hands. Enjoy the time together.

Trevor, I'm pretty sure the clear coat would need to outgas same as the paint. Maybe a quick email to your decal provider. It would be a real shame to see bubbles appear under the decals after all that work. If you're going to err here, err on the side of caution buddy. It's going to look great when it's done.'84 GS750EF (Oct 2015 BOM) '79 GS1000N (June 2007 BOM) My Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/soates50/

Hope you guys have one of these things. They only cost about $30 USD. This is doubly important if spraying urethane, although even a carbon mask doesn't provide complete protection.

Regarding outgassing of the clear and decals, I've done decals a bunch of times and never waited more than a couple days before shooting the final clear coats. Typically just one day.Ed

Reminds me of my last paint job. My bike started out looking like this:
and ended up looking like this:
Here's a thread on the painting process. The painting process starts at around post #94 which includes the construction of the paint boot, the stands, a "Lazy Suzan" rotating stand and supplies used:
Are you doing a restoration project of some kind on a GS? Let everyone see what you are doing by posting the details here.
Amazing how much paint can make a difference.Last edited by JTGS850GL; 04-24-2015, 03:38 PM.http://img633.imageshack.us/img633/811/douMvs.jpg

More progress today...Dad and I sanded the clear coat with 600 then 1000 paper in prep for the decals.
And I reinstalled the exhaust after painting it ( thanks for the tip on Beauty tone Glenn)
I decided to hire a professional to lay down the decals. Bella is someone I met at BMW bike night. She has a great business doing mobile installations and vehicle wraps.
She did a great job and she is not to tough to look at either. lol
My dad was happy...lol
I decided to ad one of my "old Skool" decals to the tail piece...I like it.
So tomorrow while I go to the vintage motorcycle swap meet in Cloverdale with Rob, Dad will lay down a "dry" coat of clear followed by two more coats of clear and it will be all done!No signature :(
