    Rechroming painted fenders

My fenders currently are painted. I'm planning on getting my bike repainted over the next few months and would like to get the fenders rechromed. Is this possible since the original chrome has been painted over?

It's probably possible, but likely won't be cheap.

I had a painted 650e fender plated in 2010 and it cost me about $95.00

Do you have a ball park idea what it would cost?

Did it come out nice or just so-so?

You can't chrome on top of chrome, even if it has been painted. The chrome and paint will have to be stripped off. Had all the chrome work done on my bike and it was all triple plated - expensive but worth it. There were 18 different baths that it all had to go through. Triple plating is not the same as factory chrome, a layer of copper is put on first and all rust and blemishes repaired before the final layers. But it will last a lot longer than factory chrome However there are some new spray bomb chromes that you can buy. Don't know how good they are. On note though, I really like the magenta color if that is still what you have. It looks unique.

Thanks for the info Phred! I didn't know you had to strip it all the way down. I figured the paint would have to come off and then go from there.

I'm thinking about keeping the purple/magenta color but freshen it up some. When we moved to FL, the movers dinged the paint up some. At least they didn't dent anything.
