GS1000S valve cover end caps - chrome or polished alloy?

The highly polished alloy valve cover end caps on my 1000S look a million dollars (and also look like they belong...), however all the photos I've seen suggest that the end caps should be chromed rather than polished.

Obviously they interchangeable, but should they be chromed?
Were polished alloy caps fitted for different global markets, or different model GS's, or has a PO just dudded me?

Originals were chrome plated i believe but time wears it off as its rather thin.

Look in the inside and youll see the thinly applied film.

stock they are chromed steel, there are (were) plenty of after market aluminium variants available through the years

Just for the record, I've checked and they are all-alloy (no sign of chrome on the inside) and have the OEM Suzuki stamp on the inside.

Can any experts chime in here - are all the alloy round end caps interchangeable across the 2 valve range?

They're all interchangeable apart from the 650. I reckon the alloy ones are genuine Suzuki as well as the chrome ones as I've seen both and almost certainly on bikes that nobody has messed with.

I've seen both chrome plated aluminum caps and polished and clearcoated caps as well. Checking the part history on Alpha Sports suggests only one part number with no supercession chain so not sure what's up with that.

The 550's screws come in from the side, like the 650, 750, 850 and 1000.

Early gs550 and 750 have plain alloy end caps, later models have chrome plate. They all interchange between 550 750 850 1000 1100 2 valve motors.
