    Would like feedback on my gs750 plans :)

    Spent a couple hours in Gimp today, to try to map out my plans for my 1981 Gs750 E. The tank is from a Honda cx500. The seatcowl I'm going to make from the old tank I think, or another tank, if it doesn't fit. Point is, it's not going to be as full of angles as the one on the picture. Main theme is: frame and everything technical os going to be top finish. Tank, seat and possibly the exhaust are gonna look dented and purposebuilt. The metal finish is going to be powdercoated with clear powder.

    Looks uncomfortable. You going to ride that thing or just look at it?

        I've had motorcycles before and I know that neither the comfort or riding position is a problem. That's why I posted this under the "appearance" category..

        This is maybe not the right forum to ask questions about aestethics :/

          True! GS's are for riding.

          The GS seats were some of the most comfortable ever made. In particular the GS850 and 1000 seats. That plank seat would be a torture rack inside 30 mins. GOOD LUCK!

            It would depend on your speed and how long you're in the saddle. If you're riding fast enough to support the weight of your torso, your backside will be screaming for a mercy in short order. You might be singing soprano by then.

                I'm also not a fan of the seat or tailpiece and perhaps your new peice fashioned from the old tank will have smoother lines like you've stated. I like what you've done with the motor, pipes and wheels, did you powdercoat or paint? Clear powder coat with the bare metal on black looks good in this example IMO.

                Is that a metal mesh material where the side covers were? Low res photo on my phone, almost looks like a black rag is covering your carbs, speaking of which, did you jet them for the pipe and pods properly? Doesn't matter what it looks like of it rides poorly...

                    Doh! Good eye, and thanks Ed.

                    After clicking and going to his photobucket, I can tell the lines are too perfect horizontally along the bottom of the tank, and one of his images even shows a red line keeping it perpendicular to the bottom of the photo.

                      For form and function I think the rear brake hose has to come down to the swing arm and outside the shock.
                      Looks good. I like the idea of battered tank and tail on a sharp motor and frame.

                        Thanks for the feedback guys 😊 I will order new brake lines for my bike, so that will be sorted. The mesh on the sides are going to be made of industrial metal plates with holes in them. I'm also going for a full carb rebuild and tuneup. I see Ed has a tutorial for this, so I'll check that out. I've done it before on vw beetle carbs and the ones on my old zx7r, and it's a rewarding job when you get it right 😊 My bike came with a full Kerker exhaust, so I suspect something has been done already. The bike idles a little rough but runs great on full throttle so I guess maybe it runs a little rich. Its close to winter here now, so carb tuning will have to wait til spring.. Got new screws for the headers in the mailbox today, so the build is officially started 😊 I'll start a build thread as I'm guaranteed to need technical input along the way.

                              If you make the tail piece and little larger you could hide all the electronics in the tail section and then get rid of the side cover for a much leaner look. A little fly screen would be cool also.
