    Thats a pretty good idea. I like that. Yes I can make the # less garish, the drawing is not to proportion. It's just to show someone artistic what I was thinking. I would like it way smaller. I will be looking into your badge idea though.

      As others have said, it is your bike and you can do as you please.

      With that said, with the exception of the paint, that bike looks very original. It also looks like with a little elbow grease it will clean up beautifully.

      My plan would simply be to do the required maintenance, clean it up and paint it in an original scheme/color. Then you can decide if you like it in it's original state. If not, it should easily fund your next bike, if you do it correctly.

        Nice bike! Perhaps you could source another tank, seat tail unit etc. Have one set of parts in your own style, and the other set as original? Likewise the brakes. If you do the mod Tom suggested, it will improve the braking, but if you refurbish the originals and keep them, just bolt them back on when it comes time to sell. Clean, original bikes hold their value.

            My rule of thumb is that if restoring the bike to the original color scheme, badging definitely; but if not original colors it is optional. My yellow 850 is not badged.

                  Decals instead of stripes?

                  Thanks for all the advice. Ultimately I am going with what make me feel good but I knew there would be a lot of good opinions for this question. I found some a way to make decals and might give this a try. That way I can always change it. I can get custom stripes and I have designed my side numbers. Any thoughts on decal stripes instead of paint?

                        From one old retired firefighter to one active firefighter, I say it's your bike and I like the idea of your badge number. I will admit, however it bothers me when some people debadge a metric bike to make onlookers think it's another brand. Mostly, those riders debadge a cruiser and try to imitate a Harley. I'm proud of my 3 Suzukis.

                            Thanks Brother, I am proud of my Suzuki as well and I am definitely keeping the side covers that say GS750. Besides the paint this bike will remain all Suzuki. I think the number will look great with the bike and it means something to me, as you know. Win win!

                              I had a similar 78 GS, and also took the badges off the tank, relocating them above the "GS 750" emblems on the side cover. Worked for me, but that was so long ago, no pictures to share...
