Door edge molding on gas tank

I'm going to give this a try tomorrow. I always have my tank off so the paint gets bumped off the tanks seam around the steering stem and bottom. The chrome molding should take care of this problem and look good too.

It works out greatly well. I did this mod on my Vulcan750 and it still shines to this day and protects the tank from the edge of the front cylinder hitting the tank.

And it only costs like 4 dollars for enough molding to do the tank and both fenders!!

It took 7 feet of 3/8" molding to go around my 1100s tank. My first impression of the product is 10/10 but time will tell how it weathers. I started and ended the bead underneath of my seat so it appears to be endless, none of the turns on the tank were too difficult for the product either.

              door edge moulding

              Hey guys
Yes it works very well over time. I have the black door edge mouldng on my GS1100E tank since last year and it works well. Its still going strong.

Yep, done it also and it holds up pretty good. Just make sure you clean the wax off the edge so the trim sticks better.

I use the black. Started doing it years ago. Works great. The only problem I have had is getting it to shape to tightly curved sections. It will pop off at times. I probably need to break down and buy some new trim. Also, on my 850 the edge where the tank and the seat come together is pretty sharp. The trim keeps the metal from cutting into the seat. Unfortunately, that is also the curvy part where the trim likes to slide off.

I'd suggest taking it off and replacing it at once a year anyways. It creates a small area for moisture to collect and over time, rust.. If you take it off once a year, clean with soap and water, let dry and replace or replace with a new piece (its cheap enough) you don't have to worry about this issue.

And LOOK.. the color is even right!
