Not bad. Saw a tube video where someone used Arm & Hammer extreme white. Worked really well. Might have been called something else but it was by AH. -
Better, but I was hoping for more. rear cover after, front cover before.

Yes, the pic was taken with a potato... and the black stuff is the "done" part before buffing with rag.

A little extra elbow grease and several grades of sandpaper along with some extra fine steel wool yields much better results. The trick then is keeping them that way.

Does it look MUCH better? yes, I think so. and it's quick... I'm into this for about 45 minutes. I didn't even take the cover off the bike.

I failed to mention how I used Aircraft Stripper in spray can to strip the clear coat off the rear cover ... it didn't work. Because it was probably removed 20 years ago.

I used to hand sand and polish all my cases but never again. WAY too much work.
Now I use a DA sander with 220 grit sandpaper to remove the corrosion. A dremel tool with stainless steel wire brush works good for the nooks and crannies.
After this it's a power buffer with a SISAL wheel w/black cutting compound. This setup will remove the sanding scratches and any remaining corrosion. Some guys use those fluffy cotton wheels and polishing compound but this is weak sauce compared to the sisal w/cutting compound. This setup will polish the cases to a sheen beyond what Suzuki provided when new. If you want the chrome look that's when that fluffy wheel comes into it's own.
At any rate, I can now polish a full set of covers in the time it used to take to do ONE (by hand).Ed

1982 GS1100 G converted by Motorcyclist magazine in 1986 to be a tribute to the Wes Cooley replica. 1982 Honda 900F. 1997 Yamaha VMax.
