Anyone have pics of a '79 GS1000 with the Vetter heavy mounts?
Just got a set of Vetter mounts for a '79 GS1000, to mount on my '80 GS850G...not sure how the orientation is with the tube pieces that bolt to the side plates....where they mount on the frame...why the tab on the lower one....? These are, what I assume to be, the Vetter heavy mounts that consist of the two frame tubes and two side plates....not the bent tube version. {if that helps}
Hoping someone has a pic or two they can show me to help shed some light on this- Thanks.Tags: None

Ok. though it doesn't seem right, to me, it does work.
Top mount is forward of the frame - but bottom mount is inside of the frame tubes...if it was up front like the other the mount angle was way off.fairing mount 001.jpg

A little closer pic.....my concern is the lower mount being inboard of the tubes...but maybe this is correct for this type of mount....fairing mount 002.jpg

I have never seen a mount like that. How do you get that part inside the frame rail?

Oh, and that bottom cross piece just slides in from the side and gets U clamped in...."if" that's how it's supposed to be. Bracket angle looks right done this way...picture that lower side mounting bolt being in front of the frame tubes - and how much of an angle that would then be for the fairing to mount toLast edited by Guest; 06-05-2016, 03:42 PM.

It's really simple Bob, email Craig Vetter and his wife, and send the pictures along with it. They are both very supportive and will sort everthing out, great people, they took a look at pictures on my G with the Vetter to make sure I have the angle correct.

I have seen windstars in the past but have never ridden with one, never mounted any either. Did a bunch of windjammers back in the day when i worked at dealerships. I've got a quicksilver on my 850, those or at least mine mounts just like a jammer. I had to adapt a mount from a honda to mine, as you can see in this picture it was slanted a little to far back so i made a spacer for the top center u-bolt mount to push the top forward a tiny bit. It's very solidly mounted. I use u-bolts on the bottom side mounts too.Dee Durant '83 750es (Overly molested...) '88 gl1500 (Yep, a wing...)
