steering wheel vibration after trunk install

Hi,

I installed a goldwing 1500 trunk on my 750, already has saddlebags. I feel the steering wheel vibrating at low speeds. Made sure the trunk is correctly installed and the brackets are stiff.

I asked afriend who has an old goldwing he said its normal, that his has done that since new.

Is this really normal?

trunk may be unloading the wheel a little. I think its time to take a look at wheel bearings myself. That and maybe rebalancing the wheels.

Swingarm bearings too, while you're in there looking at stuff. Steering head.

Maybe if your bike had handlebars instead of a steering wheel?

Jajaja....i guess you're right! Sorry about that.

Notice that the wobble only happens at low speeds <30kph. At normal cruising speeds it dissapears.

Low speed wobble is not common on a good maintained GS but are very common on Harley's.

As others have said, check all your pivot bearings and make sure the load is not excessive as too much loading on a trunk can unload the front end and cause instability.

Its the steering head bearings. The more weight you put up and out back the worse it will get. Make sure bearings are good, absolutely no dimples and learn how to slightly over tighten your steering head bearings. By that I mean if it is to tight, the bike will wander, if just right, they act like a steering stabilizer. With that big of a trunk it will be an issue.
