Added mini fairing and scooter size trunk to my GSX1100G

I think the mini fairing looks pretty sleek.

I really like the mini fairing, where did you get it from? Does it take a 7" or 8" headlight?

          Looks great!
I Ordered the emgo Viper couple days ago. (should arrive monday , URGH, I mostly work on it wknds)

Was looking at the Venom also, Hope mine looks as good ...
I could post a pic once installed here IF it's OK?

I got a check for my B-day, about exactly the price.
Decided to order with gift check $, at last moment, I checked Ebay one last time and there was an "Open-box " "Display no signs of use" for $42 .
I ordered quick, THEN noticed they deal in stuff similar ...HOPE it's OK because shipping will be a bunch IF not.

I also have a detachable Harley-Davidson windshield (think it's "Memphis-Shades" brand) , damaged , scratched plastic. I found some acrylic "Optix" for FREE and was planning on fixing that one some time too.
It would be used for function over *looks* OR sold w/ explanation ...

Been waiting on new mirrors to see how the one's I want will go w/ fairing...Some day I still want to get the retro fairing like Buffalo Bill's project ...

How heck my replies get soooo long all the time(?) Tired from work.
Yikes Been thinking of a luggage box / rack similar to yours , except mounted over the passenger seat (don't use it , don't like riding w/ backpack...Need rainsuit and more gear for winter...)

Oh, Best wishes on the finger recovery , noticed other thread, ...

Thanks, finger is sore but went welp. The faiting is an EMGO Venom and accepts a 7" headlight. It was a pain to put on because it mounts to the headlight bucket screws on the sides. So I had to take the headlight off the ring, wedge it ilthrough the opening, then wedge the ring through, and then carefully reinsert the little screws through there that attaches the headlight to the ring. There has to be an easier way.

My fairing (Emgo Viper) arrived Friday! It was a huge discount because of "open-box" But looked perfect/new condition.
It was in original box, packing peanuts, plastic bags w/ some extra tape (across box-top), so barely "open"...Two nuts were missing (windshield bolt nuts, easy find) but all other hardware.

Got it mounted yesterday. Didn't think it'd clear the oil cooler lines when fully turned, was doing a "mock-up" only (to see whether could sand some or bend it using heat-gun) but it just barely rubs the line, when fully turned/ parked...so unplanned I went ahead and tightened it up...rode to work today.

Same problem you mentioned , the headlight nuts and washers fell off inside my headlight bucket so I removed the bulb and used the longer bolt on one side, (other side was non-stock/ already longer)...
(SAE 1/2" socket ,URGH!). Too much going on at one time , not even a "correct order" for it...

It's good for what it is, the material , plastic is similar to the side panels and tail plastic , but the windshield portion and mounting procedure I rate a "MEH!" as in meh , "Ok whatever" ...

It hit me today, the better mount method would be to use brackets similar to fork mount turn-signals OR my new found ($2-$2.50 ea. range) "Split-ring hanger" (s) (Lowe's plumbing sect.) , then run a bolt from each ((2)one each fork)right through the front of the fairing, and attach with some decorative cap or bullet-head nuts ...eliminate the use of headlight for mounting AND easier/ more practical removal...checked tonight and there's enough room on fork tube for it...OR even a couple hose clamps and similar mount off the fork tubes .
That's what I'm planning since I like the fairing after using it today (ride to/from work).

I bent the mounts by hand, one at a time, MISTAKE (should've used a vise and bent both together)...The brackets are different positions each side , headlight lines up but the fairing is a little off when I pay too much attention to it...Going to do mentioned , fork-mount soon hopefully anyway. Makes more sense, couple reasons IMO. Mounting method bothers me/ temporary...

Looks like the "Venom" model would've given me similar, different issues (master cylinder clearance) due to my lower handle-bars.
Been daydreaming about bending some clear plastic (for covering the headlight portion like the coool 5" fairings have) AND making a mold of the windscreen to bend a thicker, clear , see-through version.
Have the plastic, heat-gun already...thrilled IF the new mount will work.
I'll try reply about it once finished...

I was thinking I could use the headlight bucket mounts, but in a different way. Could put the screws in backwards with the heads on the inside, and tighten the bucket down using a washer and thin nut on the outside. Then, put the headlight in and tighten down. Then, but the fairing on over the thin nut and tighten down with washer and acorn nut on the outside. I also had a problem with the windshield portion kind of bouncing on bumps, so I made some little braces out of thick wire (kind of like bailing wire) and attached one end to the last windshield mounting screw and the other end to the top triple clamp mounting bolt. Adds just enough stiffness to prevent that bouncing. Post some pics of yours when you're done. Thanks.

Is the fairing a noticeable improvement over riding without it? Not really a stupid question, I just wondered because of it's size and design. How did it affect your mileage?

It does nothing with regard to wind protection at all, or mileage. It's just aesthetic.

The thing I like the most about it is that it hides the chipping chrome on my gauge housings.

That's a very good idea to put the bolts backwards and use additional nut to secure the fairing.
I did my best to tighten the bolt w/ the headlight already installed back...I expect that eventually the headlight will move vertically. (Just putting the headlight back there's two tabs on top part of bucket and the ring had to hook over both. First go, one was not on so no-go putting headlight in with the fairing mounted, we have different model fairings though).
Your idea WOULD work for getting the bolts/nuts snug, in my case.

IF I don't mount off of the forks I *Might* go ahead and drill two small holes through the headlight brackets...Definately going to make new mounts (I bent mine with hands, uneven).

Either way will allow me to move the fairing forward some giving it more clearance (hopefully)...my tags expired Nov. 1st and no chance to get by DMV yet. Haven't ridden since Halloween....
Urgh! was just starting to really "click" w/ it...Very nice ride. fast compared to anything (Lots of other bikes were out last Sat.) , comfy too when I want...

Got a couple pics but no time to post tonight. (soon) Thanks

Oh, when I had googled: " GSX1100G with Viper" Or "...Venom" in images, NOTHING.
Wondering, your's should come up there maybe (?) Don't know how that works, have seen couple pics in google images from this forum in past...

Been busy sewing a new zipper in my favorite leather jacket. And I cut my middle finger very bad on glass (no stitches, super-glue fix)...Photobucket was down, FINALLY loaded a couple new pics: (Haven't made new mount or changed anything yet, ridden over 100 miles though, couple work commutes also):
Let me see. funky photobucket, almost got stuck logged-on, grabbed a few, quick:
Fairing: (Can't type at bottom now LOL, one pic is week before fairing, my seat was wrinkly from riding and heat that day. othe pic embarrassing junk in yard, but anyway hope not too many pics)
