2 colour paint job. Tape it off?

I'm thinking of painting my cafe project like the attached pic.

Since I'll be painting the tank and side covers with rattle cans I want to know how to keep the colours separate. Can I just use masking tape? My fear is that there will be a noticeable line or ridge where the 2 colours come together.

Fine Line tape from 3M is the stuff I recommend. And yes, there will be a ridge unless you hose on a bunch of layers of clear and color sand.

Maybe you could hide the ridge with a line of black pinstripe like in the picture?

But since the pinstripe probably goes over the 2 colours I'd have an even higher ridge wouldn't I? I'll be putting 2k clear over the paint so maybe building the surface up like Nessism says is the answer?

Depending on what pin stripe tape you're using, you can clear over it as well. Build 3 coats of clear and then color sand it even.

Why don't you paint one half of the tank. When it's dry, mask, and shoot the second colour. Remove tape, wet sand. Clearcoat.
