Windshield refurbishment or new

I've been looking at a 1982 GS1100GK that's in great shape except for the OEM windshield. It's pretty fogged up. I haven't been able to find a replacement so I may need to consider other options before committing to purchase. Any ideas on where to find a replacement or how to refurb the current plexiglass unit?

There are a bunch of Plexiglas restoration systems. Basically a series of fine abrasives and polishes. Clean cloth like cotton flannel, NOT paper towels, is a must. If its poly carb that's not easy to polish.

Go new if "nice" matters. Practise on the old one.

I think most windshields are "lexan" "lucite" (polycarbonate) not plexiglas ("Polymethyl methacrylate" ).

Polycarbonates have coatings to resist yellowing (susceptible to UV damage) that you will remove polishing it.

if it's bad, the big problem is to not end up with a kind of distorting lense -it's difficult to remove it all equally, if you are concentrating on a scratch or two...so at the least, try to ignore deep scratches. that said, I've used all kinds of stuff to make similar "clear" 400 to2000 grit wetndry seems to work before wasting polish but test at the 2000 before resorting to heavier grits

You can polish up that windshield using plastic polish and a DA. Sanding with some 1500 grit sandpaper may be necessary first. Headlamp polishing kits will work but I wouldn't waste too much money.

I have used this and a lighter version for 21 years on my Sprint and it looks like new. I used to use different strengths of rubbing compounds on my face shields before Lexan came along. That Novus plant was in Savage,MN. I used a lot Novus when I mfg and installed Airplane Windows and would go right to them to get it. Got a bunch of pro-mo single paks we would hand out at conventions.
